Pharmaceutical formulation is the process in which various chemical substances and the active drug are combined to form a final medicinal product, which is called a drug mixture or drug formulation. These formulations are meant to be administered by the oral, sublingual, rectal, cutaneous or parenteral modes. The drug can act systemically or locally. Systemic action means that the active substance reaches the target organ via the blood stream but for the drugs having localized action there is no need of transportation through blood because the point of administration and the point of action are common.

The pharmaceutical formulation can be given to the patient in various dosage forms. Dosage forms may be solid, semisolid or liquid and are specific for different routes of administration. Some dosage formulations manufactured at Amster Labs are described below:

Tablets are solid dosage form containing active ingredient with or without suitable excipient. Tablet manufacturing process includes two steps: granulation and direct compression.  In granulation, fine or coarse particles are converted into physically stronger and larger agglomerates having good flow properties, better compression characteristics and uniformity. To form a Tablets, the granulated powder material is compressed in a die with the help of machines designed for the purpose. The Tablets are usually coated with inert substances like starch to help them disintegrate in the digestive tract of the patient.  A sweetener or flavored agent is sometimes added to the tablets to make them palatable.

Capsules are the solid formulations in a gelatin container. Capsules  are of two types: 1. Hard-shelled capsules that are normally used for dry, powdered ingredients, 2- Soft-shelled Capsules, that are primarily used for drugs in liquid forms especially for active ingredients that are dissolved or suspended in oil.

Syrup is a liquid dosage form and is easily absorbed by the body as compared to solid formulations. It is usually a concentrated sucrose solution to which the active ingredients are added. Flavors are also added in the Syrup to mask the disagreeable tastes of the medicine.

Ointments – The application of a drug to an area of the body for direct treatment is called topical application. Ointments are greasy preparations for application to the skin, rectum or nasal mucosa. The base of the Ointments is usually immiscible with the skin secretions.

Injections - An injection is the act of administering a liquid based drug into a person's body using a hypodermic needle and a syringe. The injections are of several types such as Intradermal (drugs inserted into the dermis e.g local anaesthesia), subcutaneous (drug inserted below the skin eg. Insulin), Intramuscular (drug is inserted into the skeletal system or the muscle eg antibiotics) and intravenous (drug given directly in the vein allowing its faster action eg chemotherapy drugs).

Most of the times doctors recommend certain supplements. These supplements are a manufactured product that intend to provide nutrients in addition to the normal diet when taken by mouth as a pill, CapsulesTablets, or liquid injection. These supplements include essential vitamins, minerals and other important nutrients necessary for optimal health of a person.

Amster Labs offers a wide range of fine quality drug formulations including tablets, capsules, ointments, various types of injections and dietary supplements. The formulation development team at Amster Labs has extensive experience in the production of all these dosage forms and hence it has achieved a trusted name in the market.
